How much are lessons? Our trial program is 95.00 for one month. You receive a uniform and can come to class up to three times a week for four weeks. After the one month trial period we will discuss what program tier works best for you. The price after the trial period varies depending on what works best for you. Our programs are "all inclusive". This means absolutely no hidden fees or charges. The price you decide to pay each month is the set price. This set price provides uniform upgrades, safety equipment, test fees, special seminars, and any other associated fees. We know how important it is to set a household budget, so we do not "nickel and dime" and surprise you with extra costs. We do not have long term contracts, you pay month to month as long as you wish to attend.
-
If I decide to start, when is the best time? You can stop by the school at any time during our business hours and someone will be happy to speak with you. We would prefer for you to register online under "programs" so we know in advance. This will allow us to ensure we are able to provide you with one on one attention and not waste your time waiting. Once you start the introductory program you can attend any class time that is available. You or your child is not locked in to one particular day or time.
-
How traditional is your school? We are not modeled after a "traditional" style school. Students are expected to show respect to the instructors. Japanese terminology other than basics like Sensei and dojo are not used. Students do not learn Kata or forms until they are more advanced in the belt rank.
-
Am I required to Spar? No, students are not required to participate in sparring (light contact fighting) sessions. It is highly recommended as it is the best way to practice learned techniques. If a student does not want to participate in sparring, their training will be more Kata focused. All students will receive sparring equipment as part of the program. The sparring safety equipment is not only used for the exercise of sparring, but as aids and safety for tap or step by step technique drills.
-
Do you focus on Kata and forms? We are not a Kata focused school. As students advance in belt rank they will learn a few Katas to gain a basic understanding of the traditional aspects of Karate. Our Katas are from Isshin-ryu Karate. If an individual student shows interest in further study of Kata, we can accommodate.
